For months, we have known Delta gets around easier than other variants and that the unvaccinated (which includes all primary school kids) were going to bear the brunt so, come September, was there no contingency plan on the bench ready to roll to stem the disruption?

The schools were the last pieces of the jigsaw, but it now feels, amidst all the heady self-congratulations on our incredible vaccine figures, that we missed a trick and failed to avoid the situation we now have where healthy kids are being excluded.
