Give a little bit and you get a lot more back
Volunteerism is alive and well in Ireland and I suspect that the country would grind to a halt if our citizens stopped propping up the country.
Thankfully it has taken more than a few dodgy charities to dull the Irish appetite for giving and for doing extraordinary things when there is a good cause to benefit.
Many of the things they are raising money for should be paid for out of regular taxation. Maybe it is not an entirely bad thing that our bonus culture Government has a tiresome habit of wasting our billions. It gets a lot of ordinary people involved in coming to the rescue. They feel, and probably are, a lot better for it.
