Gerry O'Carroll: Provisional IRA did not need any help from Garda to gun down RUC officer
SMITHWICK REPORT: No evidence to back collusion claims in ‘lawless’ El Paso of 1980s
THE FINDINGS of the Smithwick Tribunal report are shocking and dramatic.
They are also of special interest to me personally, as I was appointed investigator by Judge Peter Smithwick to the Tribunal on October 4, 2006. My involvement terminated in August 2007.
The remit of the enquiry was simple – to investigate claims of collusion between gardai and members of the IRA in the murders of RUC Supt Bob Buchanan and Chief Supt Harry Breen.
