Frank Malley: A fascinating Euro 2012 final in Kiev between two class sides of contrasting styles

THE final of the Euro 2012 championship pitches an ageing Spanish team eager to cement their legacy by successfully defending their trophy against a re-emerging Italian side with a pleasing balance of experience and youth.

It promises to be a fascinating duel between arguably the best passing football team the world has seen against Italians as penetrating going forward as they are solid in defence.

In essence it will hinge on the midfield axis of Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and Xabi Alonso v the peerless Andrea Pirlo, at 33 an outstanding candidate for player of the tournament.
