Eilish O'Regan: Attack on the NHS gave our health service a vital warning

The HSE insists that disruption will be minimised as a result of the emergency measures that were forced to be taken to protect its computer systems from a potential cyber attack.

It acted quickly and triggered an action plan on Friday in response to the attack which struck the NHS, prompting chaos in parts of the UK health system.

The news that the virus took control of systems in the NHS sounded the alert for our own health service to shut down the threat as much as possible.
