Denis Naughten: We must all be part of the solution - do nothing, and by 2020 rubbish will be piling up

The changes to the household waste collection service are a direct response by Government to deal with a problem we have in this country on managing waste.

On two occasions last year we were within hours of a situation where no bins would be collected as there was no landfill to bring it to.

Emergency powers had to be invoked to ensure that waste continued to be collected. Nobody wants to see a return to a situation where there is a landfill in every county.
