Creative Ireland hailed as 'the most significant culture plan in a generation'

'You can feel the enthusiasm in the room," said members of the arts world as they greeted the Government's ambitious new plan to put culture at the heart of public policy.

This enthusiasm was tempered with a natural caution - but, overall, the mood was markedly more upbeat than it has been at any time in the repeated cuts of the past eight years.

Creative Ireland, a cross-governmental initiative and 'legacy project' of the 2016 Centenary Programme was launched at the National Gallery - still fittingly a building site, given the monumental new plans unveiled in the Shaw Room.
