Charlie Flanagan: It's crucial Northern voices can be heard in Brexit talks

To put it mildly, 2016 presented some serious challenges - for Ireland, for Europe, for the world.

It brought the UK's decision to leave the EU, a complex and unprecedented challenge which Ireland must respond to with the right mix of hard work, analysis and proactive engagement at home and abroad. It is also a time for cool heads as formal exit negotiations near.

It will require a smart, well-prepared approach to ensure that Ireland's interests will be secured.
