Aisling O'Connor: All aboard the royal jubilee fashion express, but prepare yourself for a soggy, lukewarm ride
SIXTY years in one of the most prominent jobs in the world certainly deserves a shindig, but you’ll be forgiven for being sick of the Diamond Jubilee media bombardment. Maybe it’s sheer jealously that the Brits got an extra day off over the bank holiday weekend to watch Queen Elizabeth give thanks for herself at a ceremony in St. Paul’s Cathedral.
As if we haven’t enough to endure with the colour coordinated millenary-fest that is summer racing and wedding fashion, the British Royal family gave us a bonus injection of stuffy fashion. In fairness though, the exercise in conservative style served to balance out the nationwide epidemic of the Union Jack plastered on every available surface.
Opening proceedings on Saturday was the Epsom Races, where the Queen and granddaughters Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice served as fashion focal points in the absence of a rumoured pregnant Duchess of Cambridge.
