Sinead Moriarty: It's a biographer's job to be like a thief in the night
ANOTHER person claiming to be unhappy about a biography of their life is hardly unusual, but Brendan Kennelly's wounds run deep.
Kennelly is furious about an authorised biography of his life, launched in April. He is so angry that he has insisted that the book be withdrawn from several bookshops.
'Behind the Smile' was written by Sandrine Brisset, a French academic who lectures at Trinity College Dublin. Brisset describes herself as a "colleague, neighbour and most of all a close friend" of Kennelly. In the blurb quotes, Kennelly himself says that Brisset, "knows more about me than I do about myself". He clearly regrets this now.
