Pillar bankers prepare for butchery
A GLORIOUS decade of banking butchery beckons. Or, what the last bankers standing will probably call a "bright future".
The two surviving butchers will be AIB's David Duffy and Bank of Ireland's Richie Boucher. This weekend, as they survey the carnage in Irish banking, the duo can lick their lips. In future they will be on their own, licensed to butcher their customers, bully small businesses and ignore the Government. Happy days are here again.
It is government policy to support two pillar banks in Ireland – AIB and Bank of Ireland. If they need more capital (which they will), the Government is committed to providing it. From God knows where.
