Great escape to bank normality
IS life really returning to normal for Irish bankers? Last week they were beginning to surface from their bunkers.
No sooner had Michael Noonan announced their release from the bondage of the bank guarantee than it was revealed that it would soon be open season on borrowers. Bankers will be let loose to tackle mortgage arrears in their traditional manner. And just to put icing on the cake, there was brilliant news from the bonus front. Bonuses will be back. In spades. Although they never went away, you know.
Richie Boucher's cohorts at the Bank of Ireland and David Duffy's circus at AIB will lie low for a while; but the two boys must be licking their lips.
