ONE year ago, almost to the day, Richie Boucher saved Michael Noonan's blushes.

One year later, Noonan has repaid Boucher – in spades.

Remember the thorny old Anglo promissory notes, just a year ago? On March 31, 2012, Michael was due to pay €3.06bn in your money and mine in cash to our European masters. A now-familiar game of brinkmanship was being played between Ireland and the ECB. Boucher donned his green jersey, rode to the rescue and Michael's bacon was saved. Bank of Ireland refinanced Michael's cursed notes.
