Pardew surviving the Toon circus
As is traditional in the build-up to Christmas, the rusty old managerial merry-go-round got a new lick of paint and was kicked into gear with a number of sackings across the English leagues this week. Martin Jol was the latest Premier League manager to get the chop.
Three managers have already been replaced this season. Five more started new jobs in the summer. Most bizarre of all in the current trigger-happy Premier League is that Alan Pardew – yes, Alan Pardew – is the longest-reigning manager in the league after Arsene Wenger.
Pardew (above) will celebrate three years in the Newcastle job next week. His appointment was met with anger by the club's fans and ridicule by the rest of us.
