Five consecutive World Championships. Five. That number really hit home early Monday morning watching Katie Taylor win yet another gold medal.

It's no news to anyone that Katie is a phenomenon, but being the best in the world at what she does, and proving it a remarkable six times (including the London Olympics), is something that no other Irish athlete has ever come close to accomplishing.

Think about it. She has never lost a fight in a major tournament, racking up a ridiculous 17 gold medals. Katie Taylor is the undisputed face of women's boxing.

Even in a country like Ireland, it's easy to get blasé about a dominant athlete.

It was always going to be hard to recreate the national excitement of London two years ago, but on Monday, in an atmosphere and place far away from the fever pitch of the ExCel Centre in 2012, there she was, beating the best on the planet, yet again.

Katie was already a national treasure before this week, but in the sheer numbers, her brilliance has never been more on display.
