Much has been made of Rory McIlroy's turnaround in fortunes since his relationship with Caroline Wozniacki ended. Two Grand Slams aren't bad, but it's worth noting that Wozniacki's form has also taken a positive swerve in the last few months.
She's rejoined the elite of women's tennis this year. After reaching her second Grand Slam final in Flushing Meadows two months ago, she's up to eighth in the world. On Sunday, Wozniacki completed what may have been her greatest sporting achievement of the year. She completed the New York marathon in 3:25.33, while raising $81,000 for a children's charity.
It's not the time that's so impressive, it's how Wozniacki prepared for the race. Wozniacki essentially broke every marathon-running rule there is, and still easily broke the 3:30 barrier.
She was out until 4am partying three days before the race. She was at a New York Rangers hockey game the night before the race. Her breakfast for the day was two bagels. And still she made it look easy.
"I've done everything you're not supposed to do before a marathon," she said.
The rest of us hack runners can only look on in envy.
