Martina Devlin: Public sector's revolving door is a lesson in insanity

The problem with many of the senior people running Ireland today is there's no sanity clause in their contracts, as Chico Marx observes about a dodgy deal Groucho wants to foist on him in 'Night at the Opera'.

Every time we try to convince ourselves mature grown-ups are in charge and doing their level best, something happens to prove the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

Take the botched public sector retirement scheme, in which civil servants retired on Rolls-Royce pensions before being invited to return to their former jobs on new contracts -- meanwhile pocketing a lump sum.
