I often think of a man I know who moved from a good job in Ireland, where he was very well connected, to a similar job in a much bigger company in the US, where he hardly knew a soul. Six months later he told me how it had worked out.

"The first stage was thinking I was a fraud. That I knew nothing. I had all of this experience and it may as well have been in the filing cabinet for all of the good it did me," he began. "Then I found myself going to that 'filing cabinet' most days and finding something I knew that applied again. It took about three months to integrate that mental 'filing cabinet' into my new job and I was flying. I didn't really know what I knew."
