How Reilly could cause unravelling of Fine Gael
The thing with a loose piece of thread in a jumper is that at the end no one can resist pulling it. You know, of course, that you shouldn't tug at it. And even as you examine that terrible thread, the ego is whispering anxiously in your ear to take your curious hand away.
Sadly, in spite of all the good advice and the memories of past bad experiences, at some point desire and curiosity will trump caution, the rebellious loose thread will be tugged and before you know it, that which was once your favourite Christmas jumper is now an amorphous gathering of loose wool.
If one was looking for a garment to describe this Coalition, and in particular its Cabinet, it would be one of those canary yellow Pringle jumpers one sees dotted across the golf courses of Ireland.
