'FOR it is in giving that we receive," the prayer of the beloved St Francis tells us. It came to mind yesterday as Alan Shatter arrived on to the Leinster House plinth to "gift" €70,000 in ministerial severance pay to the Jack and Jill Foundation.

The organisation's founder, Johnathan Irwin, was on hand to receive the money and tell us that the most distressed and vulnerable children will get 3,125 hours of nursing care, over the coming three years, as a result.

Every good luck to the Jack and Jill Foundation. Nothing, but nothing, could be good enough for these profoundly ill children and their distressed loving families.
