A reasonably good week overall - and I look forward to talking to you again next week. That was the closing sentence in a message from our new Taoiseach in his new weekly video to the nation. In the latter days of his Taoiseach term, Enda Kenny took to putting out a written resume of his week - now his younger successor makes a more high-tech move.

Whatever the medium, the content is most unlikely ever to be very revelatory. I mean, don't expect: "For the past month I have been living a lie. I'm just not up to this gig - but where would I get another one like it at my time of life?"

The sad part was that the video launch came just too late to impact on the opinion polls in which he did not get the kind of popularity bounce a new and much-lionised leader could normally expect. In fact it would appear the Canada socks in honour of visiting Canadian premier Justin Trudeau were equally too late.
