TRY telling the bank that you'll find that other €80 or €100 per month from 'unspecified savings' and see how you get on.

Of course it's different if you're heading up the Health Department or the Health Service Executive. You can add mystery to your €13bn per year spend by giving that designation to the odd hundred million here or there.

One in every four euro of taxes next year will go on health spending -- and nobody will argue with that as a principle. We must also acknowledge that every day many positive things happen in Irish healthcare.
