'Ivy Day' would probably have passed me by unnoticed yesterday. But then Theresa May finally outlined her timetable for Britain leaving the European Union.

Trust me, there is a link here. Stay with me for a moment and I will explain all.

Firstly, Ivy Day is the Sunday nearest the anniversary of the death of Charles Stewart Parnell, once dubbed the 'Uncrowned King of Ireland', who died on October 6, all of 125 years ago.
