No, the attention was down to the fact that it shocked everyone to the core – a guy, innocently walking home killed by a random, motiveless punch by a thug who had never even met him before.
This wasn't a gangland hit. It wasn't even a failed gangland hit on some tragic victim of mistaken identity. Nor was it a robbery gone wrong, or even a verbal argument that got out of hand. It was a coward's punch to the neck – it was, as Eugene's family said, the act of a guttersnipe.
