Ian O'Doherty: Well, they do have standards, you know
Truly, we live in a golden age of television. I'm not, for once referring to the likes of HBO and Sky Atlantic and boring shows like Battlestar Galactica, The Wire and Oz which force the viewer to actually concentrate on what's going on and do tedious things like actually think about the programmes they're consuming.
Nope, I am of course referring to The Only Way Is Essex, anything with Kerry Katona or Katie Price -- you know, the fun programmes; the light-hearted shows that give us all a massive insight into the private lives of these thoroughly fascinating, smart and eloquent celebrities that we normally only get to see in Heat. And, thankfully, we have similar programmes here in Ireland.
However, not everyone is happy about this emerging phenomenon.
