Ian O'Doherty: Oh cynicism, thy name is Taoiseach
Scepticism, the refusal to blindly believe something without evidence is, obviously, a good thing.
Cynicism, on the other hand, is simply a reflexive habit that automatically assumes the worst in people, and figures that they'll swallow any old bilge as long as you wrap it in a pretty ribbon that appeals to the rabble.
And, in Enda Kenny's words last week about a United Ireland football team, he may have come out with the most self-servingly cynical statement he has made to date. And, I'm sure you'll agree, that's some achievement.
