Ian O'Doherty: Never a truer word, Joe . . .
If one programme acts as a barometer of the nation's mood, then it is surely Liveline. Home to cranks and nutters of all persuasion, it also does occasionally genuinely capture people's feelings and it really comes into its own around Budget time when people tend to lose the run of themselves.
And thanks to fellow Indo hack and author Damian Corless (as a shameless plug I should point out that his new book on the bizarre circumstances behind the Irish Sweepstakes would make a great Christmas present) for alerting this column about yesterday's Liveline.
Speaking to Joe, one woman pointed out with unerring accuracy: "Joe, widows in this country are living in no man's land," which is rather brilliant.
