Disgust at Humphries doesn't mean you're part of the mob

I was once asked by a wise man: what is most important - justice or mercy?

I mulled it over for a minute and decided that, on balance, you couldn't have mercy until you had justice so, therefore, justice is the most important thing.

It seems as if the whole country has been pondering a version of that poser since the news that disgraced journalist Tom Humphries received a two-and-a-half year sentence for his vile, predatory acts, which means he will likely walk free in 18 months' time.
