Gene Kerrigan: They just never tire of getting it wrong
The recent behaviour of coalition ministers doesn't bode well at all for the future, says Gene Kerrigan
Back in January 2006, this column argued in some detail that the then government, headed by Bertie Ahern, was the worst in the history of the State. I
t wasn't a popular position at the time, as Mr Ahern was still widely considered to be some kind of puckish genius. These days, it's a fairly commonplace verdict. We also concluded that the country was so deluded and smug that Ahern's shower would be re-elected in 2007, regardless of their shortcomings -- and so it transpired. (Awesome, right? Tune in next week, we'll give you the winner of the 2012 Grand National).
Some might argue that the Cowen government that followed was even worse, but let's not quibble. Both governments were woeful.
