Fionnan Sheahan: The aspiring leaders share personal pain

SYMPATHY for politicians of any hue is in short supply these days -- least of all those of the ruling party, Fianna Fail, which has contributed significantly, if not exclusively, to the economic woes now besetting the country.

Spare a thought though for the two men vying to the lead that party, certainly by this time next year, both of whom will be happy to see the back of 2010 for personal reasons.

Despite their personal agonies, Brian Lenihan and Micheal Martin are intent on running in next year's General Election and make no secret of their ambitions to lead Fianna Fail, regardless of the damage.
