Paddy was once the victim, now he is the perpetrator
The condescending attitude of our leaders to the Greeks is wrong both in substance and in spirit
The first sign that Paddy was going down the wrong road here was the contribution of Brian Hayes on the Marian Finucane Show. Hayes, who retired from Irish politics last year to become an MEP, was speaking about the Greeks, and the inability of their negotiators to comprehend the great matters in which they are embroiled.
In tones more of pity than of anger, Hayes spoke of the "ideological" attitude of the Greeks, suggesting that there is "a huge inexperience there", that they were out of their depth.
It seemed to him that these inexperienced ideologues didn't actually want to do a deal, that in the words of Churchill, they preferred "war-war" over "jaw-jaw".
