David Robbins: Forget the sexual repression, give me a room with a view
Those Victorians were a weird bunch. And I don't just mean their sexual repression, handlebar moustaches and whalebone corsets.
Take their obsession with nature, for instance. They thought nothing of travelling miles for a pleasing view. They sighed and swooned at harmonious arrangements of mountains and valleys.
They trooped in their carriages to places like Lady's View in Killarney and Glendalough in Co Wicklow, all for the sake of a pleasing vista.
