A friend remarked to me during the week that "there is more chance of time travel than there is of a united Ireland".

He was reacting to Enda Kenny's flagging of the possibility of a poll aimed at joining together the two parts of Ireland if the North decides it would prefer to be part of the EU than the UK.

Kenny raised the possibility of a North/South poll in remarks to journalists following a speech he delivered at the Glenties summer school in Donegal a few days ago.
