With the success of the Saturday night qualifiers it is to be hoped that the GAA will put on more games during next year's leagues on a day and time which suits families, players and most supporters.

And there would be no harm in trying the odd Friday night game too between neighbouring counties. It should have been tried during the qualifiers but I suppose it took so long to get away from Sunday afternoon that we should be thankful for small mercies.

The good attendances are also a response to reduced admission charges. A tenner was great value to stand on the terrace for early-round games in the qualifiers and should not have been raised to €15 last night. Let the people in for less. The games belong to everyone and a big crowd creates a special type of atmosphere.
