Colm O'Rourke: Common sense finally takes hold as referees maintain some order by keeping cards close to their chests
Things are looking up for officials and for Kildare's footballers, says Colm O'Rourke
A couple of developments last week deserve comment. First of all, it is increasingly apparent to me that someone has told referees to keep the yellow card in their pocket as much as possible. The result has been neither murder nor mayhem.
For the most part, the referee has not entered the picture at all and hopefully that will continue. It just shows that it does not take a spate of yellow or red cards to keep order in a match.
Pity the shoulder charge is not let go too. In the game between Dublin and Louth there were a few excellent examples of proper, fair hits which were pulled up. Just because a player is knocked in a collision does not mean there is a free -- if a small man runs into a bigger man there is generally only one outcome.
