Claims by anti-flouride campaigners just don't wash with the facts

Colette Brown

'Woo' is defined as an uncritical belief in unsubstantiated ideas and the anti-fluoridation campaign is full of woo. To listen to some campaigners pontificate, one would think that fluoride poses a bigger risk to public health than nicotine, alcohol and sugar combined.

They have linked it to cot death, reduced IQ in children, prostate cancer, leukemia, osteoscarcoma (bone cancer), autism, ADHD, Down's syndrome, thyroid problems, depression and numerous other serious illnesses.

There is just one small problem. Woo. Anti-fluoridation campaigners excel at scaremongering but fail at providing proof.
