Budget must reflect that skint families have nothing left to give
OVER the next couple of weeks, Finance Minister Michael Noonan will be getting a lot of advice, be subject to huge amounts of lobbying and be offered a lot of expertise when it comes to framing the Budget. This advice will come from at home, and an array of experts abroad.
But there is one big fact that should determine what he does, more than any other. It is that households are skint.
So frayed are household finances that one in four has got behind on a vital household bill, and close to 1.2 million adults have just €50 or less left each month after paying the main bills.
