Brendan Keenan: So, just how smart is Mr Lee
One of the great difficulties in this age of mass media is that people mistake analysis for answers. Even worse, they assume that someone doing competent analysis must be pretty good at the answers.
People in pubs and shops will ask you what should be done to get the country out of this mess. Others will even pay you to speak at events and tell them. An honest answer would be "haven't a bloody clue", but politeness, as well as self-interest, dictate that one says it a bit more delicately than that.
As much as political jealousy, and the frustrations of a sclerotic political system, George Lee may have fallen victim to this confusion. The unanswered question is whether he fell victim to it himself.
