'WHO will rid me of these turbulent banks?' Michael Noonan might well echo the cry of Henry II but, in his case, there seems no equivalent of assassination in Canterbury Cathedral.

Even the bank guarantee will not go away. It came up in the Finance Minister's interview with CNN, with his confirmation that Frankfurt got its way even on unguaranteed bondholders.

Then there is the curious case of John McGuinness TD. Only the most innocent could fail to wonder if there is some connection between his present travails and his persistent attempts to start a meaningful inquiry into the rescue of the banking system.
