Brendan Keenan: 'New politics' isn't that new at all
Politicians can still waste our money without ever having to explain their rationales
IF you were paying close attention, you might have caught a glimpse of the new politics the other day. Only a glimpse, mind you; hardly visible in the parade of old politics from the new and supposedly different Government.
The little flash was provided by Transport Minister Leo Varadkar, when he said that examination of departmental files indicated that much of the construction during the bubble was driven by politicians; that it was more elaborate than it needed to be; and more expensive than it should have been.
"Many state companies were put under pressure by the previous government to build bigger and greater things than were necessary," Mr Varadkar said.
