We've all had bad dreams about this sad, sad tale

The cover is stark white. The title is utterly impersonal: 'Final Report of the Investigation of Incident 50278, from the time of the patient's self- referral to hospital on October 21, 2012, to the patient's death on October 28, 2012."

There are 108 pages in this book, but there is no happy-ever-after ending for its central character.

For 'Incident 50278' is the devastating story of Savita Halappanavar. It recounts the dreadful final days of the 31-year-old mother-to-be in University Hospital Galway (UHG), and it also tells the tale of how the Irish medical system failed her during her time of greatest need.
