We will have to compromise on tax rate whether we like it or not
We are now in danger of becoming the lepers of Europe if we refuse to come to some new arrangement
Do you remember, not so long ago, when the country was in the middle of a massive housing boom and we all hoped it would last for ever, but it exploded somewhat spectacularly in our faces.
Totally unsustainable, everyone agreed afterwards. In future Ireland's economy would have to rely on finding ways to make money which would last. We didn't want anymore of those pyramid-type schemes which can disappear in a puff of smoke leaving us all on our uppers.
Yet here we are again clinging on to another financial time bomb -- our corporate tax rate. We're making noises like we are going to mobilise our modest army and have them fighting in the trenches of Germany and France, to their last breath, to ensure that no one messes with it.
