We want our own Bernie Madoff
Incompetence, not criminality, is behind our current crisis, writes Carol Hunt, but we still want a head on a plate
YOU would want to have a heart of stone not to feel sorry for Ruth Madoff. And no, I am not being cynical or sarcastic.
Recently she revealed -- in the wake of a highly critical book published by her daughter-in-law Stephanie -- that she and her husband, Ponzi criminal Bernie Madoff, tried to die by suicide on Christmas Eve 2008.
"I don't know whose idea it was," she said, "but we decided to kill ourselves because it was so horrendous what was happening. We had terrible phone calls. Hate mail, just beyond anything and I said: 'I can't go on anymore'."
