THE internet has long been the main portal for the distribution of child pornography, which is now a multi-billion-euro industry.

The United Nations special rapporteur on child exploitation, Dr Najat M'jid Maalla, estimates that worldwide there are 750,000 paedophiles connected to the internet at any given moment.

Law enforcement agencies have been slowly getting to grips with the huge trade, even making inroads into the seemingly impenetrable darknet, entire networks that allow for completely anonymous communication.
