THE past few days have seen some of the most positive headlines in the foreign media since the heady days of the boom.

The London-based 'Times' newspaper spoke of a "remarkable comeback" for Ireland, while the 'New York Times' hailed "an important psychological moment for Europe's single currency zone, which is slowly emerging from its near-death experience".

Our media-conscious leaders know that headlines like this matter, but this new-found faith in Ireland could melt away next year more quickly than January's snow.
