Great progress has been made in developing a police service that has the support of the whole community and it is that which is now being put at risk
JUST when all seemed lost, Peter Robinson executed an elegant side-step that enabled him to elude the chasing pack. Even if it doesn't lead to a score, at least it keeps the ball in play and him in the game for a few days more.
Meanwhile, there was the impressive show of support from his DUP colleagues, who endorsed him as party leader without a hint of the concurrence -- and for some the necessity -- of his temporary withdrawal from the office of first minister. It was an equally impressive example of the mental reservation, delivered with an aplomb that would have made Desmond Connell blush.
