He comforted us in our time of need, but has Enda Kenny really built on those first promises, asks Eamon Keane
EMPEROR Enda. Really he couldn't have written a better script. He managed to lose the 2007 election and so avoid the worst economic catastrophe in Irish history.
Then he appeared to an electorate who, like long-suffering innocent prisoners, would have signed anything for escape. However, despite giving him their vote the public is now questioning the emperor's new clothes.
The emperor looked pretty good for a while. He built up Fine Gael, then with the Obama and Queen visits, he brilliantly caught the mood of the nation.
