DURING the 2010 Fine Gael leadership heave, Enda Kenny's opponents were putting about the line, 'who do you want taking a call from the president of ECB at 2am?'.
Such concerns resurfaced within days of Mr Kenny becoming Taoiseach when he seemed to badly misjudge the mood at his first EU summit and succeeded only in angering then French president Sarkozy.
But Mr Kenny has gone a long way towards silencing his doubters in getting that joint statement with the German chancellor.
