What has the Seanad ever done for Ireland or its citizens? Yes, for political cronies it has given them access to salaries and pensions, to life-long car parking in Leinster House and access to the Dail members bar for life.
Seanad seats were handy goodies for Bertie Ahern to hand out to political cronies.
Fianna Fail general secretary Sean Dorgan was one of the chosen ones. He was appointed to a Seanad that sat for just one day and he got paid €5,000 for it. But there were many others: members of the Drumcondra mafia, friends of friends, partners of friends and those who defended him in difficult times.
