Ruairi McGinley: There's nothing wrong with topping-up when HSE salary is too low

'The CEO's salary should not be a news item as I believe the Department of Health was fully aware of his salary for a number of years'

In my opinion, the HSE salary scale quoted for CEO position in Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin at €110,000 is too low – given the size of the hospital, its 2,000 employees and the world-class standard of care offered in many health disciplines.

By virtue of being an elected member of Dublin City Council, I have served on the hospital's board for eight years (between 1995 and 1999 and 2009 to date) but I also bring my experience as a chartered accountant to meetings.
